    MOLD REMEDIATION

Unlimited Environmental is a leader in the field of Microbial of “Mold” Remediation.  What types of Mold or Fungi pose hazards to the human health in inhaled or digested.

The most common types of fungi are Aspergillus, Stachybotrys, Pencillum, Cladosporium, Alternaria, Bipolaris, Fusarium and Paecilomyes.  The most dangerous form of molds are Stachybotrys (It’s a black, slimy mold which requires ongoing water source and/or extremely humid environment.  Stachybotrys produces extremely toxic myotoxins, carcinogenic and immunosuppressive….Aspergillus although very common in various building materials, can create an airborne environment that my result in an allergic or even a toxic response in children or adults alike.  If remediation is necessary, the procedure below should be followed:

    • Develop a remediation plan detailing the method, scope, time and controls to be used.  (This plan should include correcting the source or cause of the moisture).
    • Inform all parties impacted and determine if the need to be relocated.
    • Impacted items need to be removed and decontaminated as necessary.
    • HVAC system needs to be evaluated for impact and should be decontaminated if necessary.
    • Visual examination should be made to ensure all visible contamination has been removed.
    • Upon project completion, clearance sampling should be performed to ensure areas are safe for re-occupancy.  (The clearance criteria should be developed prior to the start of the project.)

    Indoor Air Quality and Microbial

    Decontamination

Though relatively new, the area of microbial & indoor air quality remediation is rapidly becoming an important component of the larger abatement field as a whole.  Micro-organisms can be found in indoor air and on surfaces such as floors, walls, ceilings, furnishings and within HVAC systems.

Growth of bacteria, fungi, protozoa and anthropods in buildings/apartments/houses and structures depends on a number of interrelated variables.  Moisture is recognized as the primary factor controlling biological growth on substrates.  A comprehensive strategy to resolve problems related to microbial growth in structures entails a series of inclusive steps:

    1. Removal or remediation of existing contamination.
    2. Identification and control of moisture source.
    3. Implementation of long term plan to prevent problem recurrence.
    4. Implementation of a cleaning program to prevent pollutant buildup.

It is imperative that the pollutant agent is correctly identified in order that the proper measures are taken to eliminate and control its spread.  Proper identification is critical to selecting the most effective Biocide or other Anti-microbial agent.

Unlimited Environmental has an invaluable experience working with the area’s best and brightest microbial professionals in locating, identifying and remediation these indoor air quality threats.
